Alstroemeria are commonly known as Peruvian lily and are often seen in cut flower bouquets. They come in a vast range of colours and Alstroemeria aurea is one of the hardiest of the genus, with yellow or orange-yellow flowers in summer. These are patterned with streaks and dots in brown. It spreads vigorously, but the roots are brittle so care is needed when transplanting. Great in a border or grown for cut flowers (pulling, rather than cutting, stems for cut flowers will encourage repeat flowering). Likes Sun or partial shade and moist to well drained soil. Will grow to about 75cm/2.5ft.
